Terms & conditions

Who we are

Housing Standards Academy provides online continuing professional development training
for housing and environmental health professionals. These terms apply when you use this
website, apply for a course pilot, or enrol on a course. If you do not accept them, please
do not use the site.

You can contact us at info@housingstandardsacademy.co.uk.

Course pilots

Pilot places are limited in number and are allocated at our discretion. Applying does
not guarantee a place, and we review each application to keep the pilot group relevant.

A pilot place is free on the condition that you complete your assigned course
and submit the end of course feedback.
That condition is the consideration for the
free place. If you do not complete the feedback we may withdraw access to further pilot
material, though we will not charge you.

We may ask whether you are willing to provide a testimonial. You are under no obligation
to give one, and declining does not affect your pilot place or your certificate.

Your account

You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything done under
your account. Accounts are for one named person. Please tell us promptly if you think
someone else has access to your account.

Course content and professional judgement

Our courses are written and reviewed by a practising Chartered Environmental Health
Practitioner and are checked against the legislation and statutory guidance in force at the
time of writing. Law and guidance change, and the application of the Housing Health and
Safety Rating System depends on the facts of each individual case.

Our training is educational. It supports your professional judgement, and it does not
replace it. It is not legal advice, and you remain responsible for the assessments,
scores, notices and decisions you make in your own work.

Intellectual property

All course videos, workbooks, slides, quizzes, scoring tools and written material on
this site belong to Housing Standards Academy unless stated otherwise. You may use them for
your own professional learning and reference.

You may not copy, share, republish, resell, or use our material to deliver training to
others, whether inside or outside your organisation, without our written permission. If you
want to train a team, contact us and we will arrange it properly.

Where we reproduce Crown copyright material, such as statutory guidance and official case
studies, it remains Crown copyright and is used in accordance with the terms that apply to
it.

Payment, cancellation and refunds

Where a course is paid for, the price is the one shown at the time you buy, in pounds
sterling. Access is granted to you personally once payment clears.

Because our courses are digital content supplied immediately, you may be asked to agree
that supply begins straight away. Where you agree to that, your statutory right to cancel
within 14 days may be lost once access has begun. Nothing in these terms affects your
statutory rights as a consumer.

If a course is not as described, or does not work as it should, contact us and we will
put it right or refund you.

Availability

We aim to keep the site and courses available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted
access. We may need to suspend access for maintenance, or to update material when the law
changes.

Acceptable use

Please do not misuse the site, attempt to gain unauthorised access to it, upload harmful
material, or use it in a way that disrupts other learners. We may suspend accounts that do.

Our liability

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including
liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.

Subject to that, we are not liable for business losses, loss of profit, or losses that
were not reasonably foreseeable when you started using our courses.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and
Wales have jurisdiction.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The version published on this page at the time you enrol is
the version that applies to you.
