About the Academy
Who is behind Housing Standards Academy?
The Academy was founded by San Nyunt, a Chartered Environmental Health Practitioner and named HHSRS assessor who inspects properties, scores hazards, serves notices and defends decisions as a day job. Every course is written and reviewed by a practitioner, for practitioners.
Who are the courses for?
Local authority enforcement officers and EHPs; private-sector housing teams and housing associations; landlords and letting agents who want to understand how properties are assessed; and students and apprentices building environmental health careers.
How do I know the content is accurate?
Courses are audited line by line against the current statutory guidance and the underlying legislation, corrections are logged, and when the law changes the courses are updated with it. The Academy holds its own material to the same evidential standard that enforcement work demands.
HHSRS and the courses
What is HHSRS?
It’s the reformed Housing Health and Safety Rating System, in force in England from 23 June 2026. It replaces the 29 hazards with 21 hazard profiles, swaps the old A-J bands for High, Medium and Low, and introduces baseline indicators. Our courses teach the new method end to end.
I trained on the old 2006 system, do I need to start from scratch?
No. The Refresher course is built for you: it carries your existing judgement across to HHSRS, focusing on what changed, what merged, and how your scoring instincts translate to the new system.
I’m new to the HHSRS, where do I start?
Begin with the Transition (Foundation) course to understand the system and its 2026 reform, then move to the Practitioner (Full competency) course to build assessment and decision-making skill on the official 2026 case studies.

Use the “Which course am I?” guide on the homepage, or see the Learning paths page. In short: new to HHSRS → Transition; trained on 2006 → Refresher; want full competency → Practitioner.
When do courses open?
The launch courses are currently piloting with local-authority colleagues. Public enrolment opens after the pilot. To be told the moment enrolment opens, get in touch or join the early-access list.
CPD and certificates
Do I get a CPD certificate?
Yes. Every completed course issues a CPD certificate with structured learning outcomes, suitable for your CPD record.

How much do the courses cost?

Can I train my whole team?
Yes, we offer group and organisation options. Get in touch to discuss numbers and pricing.
How do I log in to my account?

What are the HHSRS ScoreApp and Quick Reference Cards?
The ScoreApp lets you score a hazard to the 2026 system in your browser with the full working shown at every step. The Quick Reference Cards summarise the 21 hazard profiles, band thresholds and key figures as printable cards. Both are free and are being released alongside the course pilot.
